How does it work?

First, you have to log in using your academic email address in the Google login form that appears when clicking on the login button.

A list of "projects" will appear, each project is tied to a teaching module. Select the one with your current teaching module name in the project name (If the module is named "ai", you should have a project named "firstname-lastname-ai-12345")

Select a template according to your need (ask you prfessor in case of doubt).

Change the parameters of the instance if needed before creating it.

Wait for the instance to run and then you can access JupyterLab (or any service) using the buttons in the instance list at the bottom of your screen.

Nothing happens when clicking on Login.

You need to allow pop-up windows for this website.

There is no project listed when logged in.

Only those following specific modules are allow to use the Datalab. If you think you should have access, please contact your professor.

The JupyterLab tab gives a 404 or 502 error.

Wait 20-30 seconds before forcing a refresh (ctrl + f5). If it still does not work, contact us.

What is the "Token autorefresh" switch in the top-right corner when logged?

A Google Authentication token lifetime is only one hour. If the switch is on, every hour, a window will open and automatically refresh the token.

It asks me my IP address when creating an instance.

Each instance services (like JupyterLab) are only accessible from the IP the instance was created from (your IP). It usually is requested automatically, but can be blocked by an AdBLocker, or the network, in which can you have to provide it manually. You can use https://www.whatismyip.com/ for instance to get it.

My instance shut down by itself.

It can happen in mutliple case :

• Max duration : when created, an instance is set with a maximum duration. The instance list show the remaining time for each instance. When the time is up, it shuts down. Save your work before that time.
• Too many instances created : you are only allowed a certain number of instance at the same time, depending on the lesson needs. Resources have a cost, do not be wasteful.
• Budget reached : you have exceeded your budget. Contact your professor if you really need more budget.
